Welcome
to the London Schools Hydrogen Challenge:
Secondary School Version
The Challenge is an interactive web-based educational
science programme for 11-14 year olds and runs across all 33 London boroughs
from September 2008 to June 2009.
Now in its second year, over 100 secondary schools
have already taken part in the Challenge, which aims to introduce students
to cleaner energy, and specifically hydrogen technologies and their applications.
Challenge sponsors,
Air Products
, are experts in this area; as the world's leading
provider of hydrogen, they are involved in lots of exciting projects,
including helping to bring ten hydrogen buses to the streets of London
by 2010. Tackling climate change is a top priority in London and these
clean technologies can help to reduce climate change.
The web-based Challenge, which runs for the length
of the school year, provides schools with a range of online teaching
resources that support the National Curriculum. It gives students the
opportunity to put their knowledge to the test and enter the draw for
a place in the Grand Final, where they can win a range of high-tech prizes,
along with a top prize of
£1,000
for their school.
Registration for the 2009 Challenge has now closed
however teachers and students can continue to use the online resources.

"The London Schools Hydrogen Challenge is going from strength
to strength. It is great to see London's school kids learning about
new technologies that have the potential to drastically improve
our environment in the future. Not only does this bring science alive
in a fun way, it also helps nurture young people’s passion about the
environment. I congratulate all these young Londoners for embracing
this Challenge with such imagination and enthusiasm."
Kit Malthouse, Deputy Mayor of London and Chair of
the London Hydrogen Partnership.
